Forever and Ever

A whispered promise, an eternal platonic love, and a lifetime intertwined. Forever and ever is the repeated promise BLAKE (45) and her best friend ROSY (45), a secretive writer, made to each other when they were young.

As children, the pair fought invisible monsters with stick swords and whispered fantastical stories under the covers late into the night. A magnetic pull between the two continued as they grew, became college roommates, backpacked through Europe, and lived together in their early 30s. But after a hiking accident puts Rosy on her deathbed decades too early, Blake faces living a life without her. If only they had not gone on that hike.

After discovering a notebook in Rosy’s hospital room with the power to grant wishes, Blake immediately writes that Rosy is healed. However, she soon learns that the notebook lacks the power to heal. She decides to write herself out of Rosy’s life to save her, but at the cost of Rosy forgetting their lifelong friendship. She writes down the coldly contrasting moments of her life without Rosy.

The next day, Rosy wakes up in her bed with no recollection of the hiking accident or of Blake. Blake has lost the person who has witnessed her entire life. She attempts to stay in contact and pretends to exist only as a friendly neighbor. She watches Rosy’s life unfold from a distance. Slowly, Blake and Rosy begin to become friends again until Rosy announces her plan to go on the same hike that nearly killed her the first time. Although Blake does everything in her power to prevent her from going, Rosy does not listen. She is seriously injured from the hike and dies at the same hospital where the notebook once appeared. Her last words are “forever and ever.” In absolute grief, Blake attends her funeral, amid Rosy’s family, who have forgotten her. That evening, she falls to the floor and writes, Forever and Ever, across the last page of the notebook. In the next life, two little girls run through a library. A notebook falls out of the stacks in front of them. Their eyes meet, and recognition flashes over their faces.

FOREVER AND EVER follows a free-spirited artist who must save her best friend after a devastating accident by writing her out of her life in a magical notebook, but if the plan goes awry, she must face the consequences of playing with life and death.
